Third trimester Doppler ultrasound

We will perform this scan between week 35 and 37 of gestation, since it is the moment when we will be able to detect most of the alterations in fetal growth.

image1. Assessment of fetal growth

In this ultrasound we will make measurements of the baby (head, abdomen and femur) through which we can estimate the fetal weight. Later we will calculate the percentile in which the baby is, which will allow us to determine if it is growing correctly or has a growth alteration.

2. Fetal and placental Doppler assessment

By evaluating the blood flow by Doppler technique of the umbilical arteries (the baby's umbilical cord has 2 arteries), the middle cerebral artery (one of the arteries that nourishes the brain) and the ductus venosus (a small fetal vessel located at the abdominal level), we can assess the fetal hemodynamic situation: how nutrients and oxygen are reaching the baby.

image3. Morphological evaluation

We will perform a new fetal morphological scan to make sure that no fetal malformation has appeared during the third trimester.

image4. Assessment of fetal well-being

To complete our ultrasound, we will assess the amount of amniotic fluid, fetal movements and other signs of well-being such as respiratory movements or the presence of hiccups in the baby.
